Taking the plunge into the world of design agencies can be a bit daunting so we’ve put together some of our most frequently asked questions! If we’ve missed anything, don’t hesitate to say hi to us at

I've never done this before, how do we get started?

Got a project in mind for us? Great!!

First things first, send us an email and say hello. We’d love to hear all about it so tell us what your ideas! We can then tee up a meeting or have a chat on the phone to get to the nitty gritty details after which we can send you a quote.

A 50% deposit is required on design services and a 100% payment is required for all printing, distribution, hosting & domains. This books your job into our workflow and ensures we can dedicate the time to making your branding and design work beautiful.

We then ask you to complete a design brief form, this is crucial in ensuring that your new branding is aligned to your vision. It has the added benefit of making sure that you are truly aware of what is most important to your clients and how you can guarantee they have the best experience possible with you.

I really like your work but I'm not in Australia, can we still work together?

We get a kick out of living in this small connected world and we definitely can work with you whether you’re in Bondi, Berlin or Birmingham – or anywhere else.

How and when do I pay for my project?

We require a 50% deposit prior to work commencing, with the balance to be paid upon approval of the final artwork and prior to sending the final artwork files. A copy of our design contract will be emailed to you prior to the commencement of work and this outlines our processes and legalities. This contract must be signed and dated and emailed or mailed back to us before the work will begin.

Who owns copyright to the work once finalised?

By default, we retain copyright unless contractually agreed otherwise. This allow us to protect our design from unauthorised modification, plagiarism or use that is beyond the scope of the original project. However, in the case of logo design, we transfer these rights to you upon full payment as it’s not practical for us to retain ownership. We do reserve the right to publicly display the logo for promotional use such as in our portfolio, advertising, web site or social media.

Can you send me the working/raw files?

We provide you with all the files for your finished product, however, this doesn’t include any of the working/raw files. As with other agencies, we choose to keep your layered and editable files here at the studio to maintain the integrity of your designs.

With all of our projects, unless specified otherwise, you’re paying for the print ready/web ready files only, not all the layers and history.

Our designers have years of training and experience in order to balance all the details on the design. The programs that we use are specialised for our industry and it’s easy to lose links or fonts if used by someone inexperienced.

What am I responsible for providing?

The short answer – your text, images, existing branding and a completed design brief.

Design really works best when it’s a collaborative process. We like to involve you as much as possible, especially in the early days while we’re learning all about you. Your participation is crucial to keeping a project in the right direction, within budget and within the agreed timeframe.

Once we know how you like your coffee and what side of the bed you sleep on, we can keep your projects moving along with minimal involvement letting you focus on the rest of your to-do list.

How long does the process take from beginning to end?
Each project varies, but we are all about transparency so once we’re across the scope of work we can break down your project timelines for you. We are perfectionists & we don’t like to rush, but we are grounded firmly in the real world and understand your business needs the design to progress forward – so we balance these factors accordingly. We rely upon your quick responses at each stage of the process in order to hit deadlines.
What makes up a round of revisions?

Depending on the project, we generally offer between 1-3 concepts followed by three rounds of revisions. This means that once you choose a concept, we further develop the design if necessary.

A revision constitutes a change or variation to an initially presented design concept, and is typically a change of less than 40% of the design. It is a slight modification or course correction to progress toward the final design.

We always encourage you to sit with a design concept and see how it feels – we take care in ensuring your design is the best fit for your brand and your customers. Once you have clarity, it’s much easier for us to make any changes and your ’round’ will be well spent.

The brief form feels like a lot of work for me?

We know it can seem daunting but we often have clients thank us as it helps them gain a lot of clarity about their new business or project. It gives us insight into your business, culture and most importantly your customers – we want to make sure what we create for you really connects with them.

What industries do you work with?

With a wealth of experience working with small business to multinational corporations – we know how to add value to your marketing to connect with your customers. If you do not see work that fits within your industry type that doesn’t mean we haven’t done the work – feel free to ask us!

Do you do pro bono work?

We’re on the lookout for a new opportunity with a nonprofit or charity. Get in touch if you fit the bill.

What is the difference between a logo, an identity, and a brand?

Everyone has their opinion but we define each element like this.

A logo is a simple, visual representation – it can be typographic, include an icon and is considered the main identifier for your business.

An visual identity is the collection of all your marketing materials – your logo, business cards, stationery set, website, digital assets, uniforms, packaging.

A brand is the conceptual foundations of your business – this includes your vision, customer experience and the foundations on which we build your marketing.

Why do you call it a Logo Suite?

A good logo is never designed with one purpose in mind. It is designed as a series of variations which covers differences in color, size and format versions. Each version, format and variation has its own specific uses to ensure your brand is well represented no matter where or what the circumstances.

Why is visual consistency crucial for a brand?

Science tells us as part of the human condition we crave stability and consistency. This extends to branding, creating trust with your customers starts with maintaining a recognisable brand experience. Customers want to know who you are and that when they engage with you, the relationship will be supported in a recognisable, professional way. The best bit – brand trust creates loyal customers that share your brand (otherwise known as word of mouth referrals) leaving you to do what you do best.

What makes a great brand?

Great branding is the visual personality of your business. It emotionally connects to your customers in a natural, easy way. It’s almost always visually simple – think Apple, Nike, Google – however conceptually the work is detailed and expansive. Your logo and supporting elements are the magic combo that create your brand.

What are supporting elements?

Supporting elements are the visual identifiers of your brand. Huh? Yeah we know, we’re really passionate about this so we’ll break it down for you. The combination of the colour palette, typography, images, patterns, textures and icons that create your brand feel. These elements are used on your website, marketing materials and digital assets to create a seamless brand experience.

What's a style guide? Why should I have one?

A style guide is the guidebook for how your business is represented. It lays out your visual identity in detail, it can also include your languaging and the rules for how your brand is communicated to the world.

Every employee, supplier and customer you work with benefits from the consistency of your brand messaging, and your brand grows from strength to strength.

How does branding help my business?

Now this is our favourite topic… as designers we don’t just make things pretty. Design is crucial for your bottom line, an investment in your business. The UK Design Council reported in 2007 that every $100 invested in design increases revenue by $225. That’s a 225% return on investment. Pretty sweet eh?

What do I need to provide so you can create a beautiful new website?

The most beautiful, effective websites are well planned and the content aligns seamlessly and supports the brand. We will need your content – a general sitemap, the words, images and call to action for each section – we can help you out by sending you tips on how to write for the web and will assist you in the process so it feels smooth and easy for you. We can also arrange copywriting, photography and image sourcing services for you if you require.

Why is it important to have a website and digital presence if my business doesn't sell online?

People want to know who they’re spending their money with, and it’s an inescapable fact that your business will be googled so people can research where their valuable money and time is going. A website gives you credibility and allows new customers to find and engage with you.

What is a responsive website and why is it important?

A responsive website will shrink and expand so it is easily viewed on a desktop computer, tablet or mobile phone. We only design responsive websites – unless you really don’t want us to. Google stats show that nearly 75% of users prefer a mobile-friendly site – that’s a good enough reason for us, you never want your customers to work harder than they need to.

I'm not good with computers, can you set up my entire digital presence for me?

We’d love to help, please contact us and we can guide you on discovering how your business will benefit from having a digital presence and how we can make it happen.

Why does my website need to be maintained?

We’re glad you asked.. think of your website as a living entity, it’s your representation of your business to the world – and your website needs to evolve as your business does. SEO rankings, current info and giving your customers a reason to come back are also really compelling reasons.

Can I update my website myself once it's completed?

We like you to feel empowered to update your blog and make minor changes to your website – we are happy to offer training sessions to get you comfortable with this.

Can you update and maintain my website for me?

We sure can, we can work out a package to best suit your needs to ensure your site stays looking and performing its best.

Does anyone use print design anymore?

We love print and it’s certainly not dead.. We produce a variety of print materials including business cards, stationery sets, postcards, brochures, magazines and books. We work with our print suppliers to ensure that they adopt the latest environmental printing practices – because we also love trees.

Can you help me decide what format will work best for my marketing?

We’ve all seen flyers with every possible space filled with content – but we’re glad to report we don’t make these. So why is it a good idea to respect white space? It helps attract attention and creates stunning, considered and legible designs. We will advise you if your content is more suited for an 8 page brochure or a postcard.

Do you design for letterpress?

Well yes we do, and we can design for any print technique that exists. Foil printing, spot UV, die-cuts, packaging… we recommend that you leave a little more time for any project that requires a special print process – the crafting involved and the print process is more labour intensive to give you a beautiful result.

What colours should we use for printing?

For consistency across all your printed materials – we recommend using and will advise on Pantone colours.

Will you provide printing or do I arrange my own printing?

Either way is fine. We have developed good relationships with a variety of printers and vendors who provide attractive rates that we pass on to you – we’ll happily include a printing quote for your project. If you would prefer to manage the printing process yourself, we simply provide print-ready artwork files.

How about letterbox distribution?

We work in partnership with the best, most trustworthy distributors which means we can give you a quick and easy quote to match your needs at a competitive price.

I'm hosting an event, how can you help?

Professionalism is the key to a successful event and we ensure your guests experience the best on each touchpoint.

I just booked Jamie Oliver to speak at our corporate dinner...

Can we come? But seriously, you’re going to need amazing supporting design so you impress Jamie and your guests. We design beautifully branded menus, place cards, seating charts, signage and digital graphics to ensure your guest’s experience is inspired and remembered.

What can you do for our team building event?

We create guidebooks, invitations, worksheets – pretty much anything that you (or we) dream up can become a treasured reminder of a team day.

I really like infographics...

We do too.. there’s no better way to present important facts in an easily understood manner. And luckily for you, infographics are our specialty. Let’s chat about your data and how we can make it shine!

But how can an infographic help my business?

We know you’ve heard it a thousand times, content really is king. Infographics are shareable – they drive interest in your brand and can help boost your social media rankings. And you generally have the information at your fingertips so it’s a low effort marketing piece for you.

I've written a book, and need some custom illustrations.. can you help?

Sure, tell us about your ideas and we can bring them to life. Of course with illustration, there are different styles and we have a team of artists we can call on to match your vision.

I've been thinking about using illustrations in my social media..

We like this idea too. We create social media sets to promote your brand, event or offering. Illustration adds interest to your feed and can help create a beautiful theme for your current marketing.
